Thirty!

It's a new year and a new decade for Jon...he turned thirty last week! We celebrated all week, mostly with lots of dates.

 The Friday before his birthday, we did a babysitting swap with some friends. Jon and I had both been having blah weeks...we were tired, the kids were trying, Jon was swamped at work. When I was setting up the babysitting swap, Jon assumed I was planning a girls night with my friend, so I went with it and kept the date a surprise. When I told him what our real plans were on Friday night, he was SHOCKED. And so so happy. It was the best surprise I have ever been able to pull off. So fun! We went and saw The Impossible and grabbed some frozen yogurt afterwards. Simple, but so needed!

Then on Wednesday, the day before his birthday, another friend offered to watch the kids so we could go see the free screening of Les Mis at Dreamworks. We seriously have the best friends! I met Jon at Dreamworks after work, so I grabbed some dinner on the way and we ate a nice, quiet dinner in the cafeteria before the movie. Another really enjoyable evening!

On his birthday, we celebrated with the kids after he got home from work. They were SO excited to have a party! Do you like the candle set up? It's a 3 and then the other candles are a zero. Super fancy! :)  I made lemon bars and the kids made sure there was more than enough powdered sugar on top.

 

Emma set up a treasure hunt for Jon to find his presents. He was supposed to read the clues to find the presents but the kids were so excited about it all that they kept running to the hiding spots to show him where everything was.

We gave him some water purification tablets (it was on his wish list), a Bear Grylls survival knife, and I got tickets for us to see Wicked the next night (yes, another date!)

I'm pretty sure the knife was his favorite gift.

Jon took the next day off work. After school we dropped the kids off with his parents and then headed into the city to see Wicked....the first time for both of us! The night was an adventure....I tried wearing brand new wedges which promptly killed my feet. So, our plans to walk to a nearby restaurant were shot because I just couldn't walk. We ended up finding a mall and just eating in the food court there because it was close. Then we headed to the show. Such a fun show! We both really enjoyed it. By the end though we were both completely exhausted....seriously we are not night owls anymore!

 

We spent the rest of the weekend with the Farrell clan. The whole family came over Saturday so we could celebrate Jon and Matt's shared birthday.
